Photographer captures beauty through digital lens

When Howard Austin Feld was looking for gallery space to show his digital photographic art, he committed to a seasonal five-month lease at 538 Lincoln Road. Six months later, Howard Austin Feld is thinking post-seasonal and permanent.
No one appears more puzzled about his sudden thrust into the art world than Feld himself. A modest Miami Beach native, Feld is overwhelmed and still gets "a kick out of" being able to sell his art.
"I'm shocked." Says the artist almost astonished.
"Somebody likes this stuff enough to buy it and put it in their house!" He tells the story of a Fort Lauderdale woman who purchased twelve of his canvas (pieces range from $500 to $3000 each).

"It was an odd feeling to walk into her home ( I hadn't seen any of my pieces anywhere but the gallery) and see my work up on her wall."
Success though, is attracted to Austin Feld. He thrived while working in the catalog fashion business before upgrading his North Miami photography shop into a commercial product studio. Nonetheless, he proclaims his devotion for shooting people as the driving force behind his digital artistry.
"It all sort of just happened," says the artist.
"I set my digital camera on the black and white mode. When I looked at it, it looked great. I realized that I could do everything right there on the the screen."
To hear Austin Feld describe the process of digital photographic art is simplistically artless: yet it's the voice of an artist at the forefront of a digital revolution.
"I can't see shooting commercial black and white with film anymore. It takes too long an do you don't have control." It's this pursuit and commitment to his perfect shot" that has taken Feld up he digital road.
The process is wholly electronic. The black and white photograph goes into the computer as a black and white image.
"I do what I have to do in order to make the image right (as far as fixing it, retouching it) and then add color; adjusting the color in the screen and in the printer. Once I have an image that works, its printed on canvas," explains the photographer. Feld imagery could be described as "suggestive." He exceeds at shooting the female nude, bringing to each of his pieces divine power. It's a wonderful balance of color, subject and artist. The image is always commanding and sophisticated. Feld uses color and prerogative to aesthetically manipulate the photograph yet the original image is unscathed by his methods. The shot works perfectly. Every time.
